Big Spider and web

This got the 11 year old "Cool!" vote.

I orginally planned to do a PVC and cloth spider, but due to stupidity on my part, lost 2 months in a cast (Yes Don, you must be careful with utility knives ). This severely cut into prop Building time. Then I saw the 50" spider at Spencers. SALVATION!
Round and round and round.... Here you see the start of the sprial, sorry but I forgot to snap pictures before this point. Still getting used to the digital cam :) I tied at each node point, and then hit each one with a dab of hot glue to lock it in place. Oh, and the nylon cord was treated with RIT.
Pretty spider The long view after installation. That is 14 feet from ground to dripline. The spider is attached to the web using tie-wraps. The entire web does not touch the house except at the dripline, and moves out to about 4' from the house at the bottom. This allows the whole thing to sway in the wind.
ICK! Close up. Notice that the entire web is also coated with 'hot-glue' webbing, in addition to the tied ropes.
Glowing! Now illuminated by blacklight. Notice the 'nodes' of the web are glowing? See below for a surprise I got. Oh, and that is my son wondering what the hell dad is up to now.
Closeup again And a final closeup.
Pretty! Now, here is the surprise. When I was setting up the BL, I noticed all these bright points on the rocks under the web. This was strange, since I had done a survey to make sure I didn't have any 'unwanted' glow. Turns out it was drips from the glue gun. Here you see a stick of 'Wal-Mart' special, Hi-Low temp glue stick next to a blacklight tube. The glow is not huge.. but it does add nicely to the web :)
